The magnificent new home of the Rockdale Country Club opened its doors to over 200 members and a number of out of town guests at an informal dinner and dance at the clubhouse Friday evening. Dinner was served in the ballroom of the clubhouse under the directions of Mr. and Mrs. Russell James of the Hotel Miami. The entire even was informal, although the conventional black and white dress of the men and beautiful evening gowns of the women found favor with considerable number of guests.
The spacious clubhouse with its new furnishings and beautiful floral decorations preened a very attractive setting for the gay assembly and from 7:00 pm until midnight the club members and their guests made the most of the happy occasion.
Immediately after the dinner the ballroom was cleared for dancing and for three hours members tripped to the fantastic and joyous strains of jazz furnished by “Chick Rounds” seven piece orchestra from Joplin.
While dancing was in progress, crowds of members who did not dance gathered about bridge tables or in friendly groups in various nooks and corners of other sections of the clubhouse. Three games of bridge were played. Mrs. C.A. Beck and Mrs. A.C. Wallace were in charge of arrangements for this event. High score winners were Mrs. J.W. Brandon and Mrs. R.P. Spencer for the women; and Ralph J. Chambers and R.P. Spencer for the men.
